Who We Are and What We Do.
An Overview.
The Mad River Valley Interfaith Council (MRVIC) is a volunteer organization made up of representatives of various local faith groups as well as members at large. The purpose of the MRVIC is to enhance the quality of life for Mad River Valley residents in need by providing: food, financial help to meet emergency expenses, support programs, and other charitable activities. (The Corporation is organized exclusively for charitable purposes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.)
Our Causes
Emergency Assistance
The MRVIC provides financial assistance in a variety of ways within the Mad River Valley. Through the emergency assistance program, the group has helped with funding for transportation, utilities, housing, and other needs. Additionally, MRVIC is a funding partner of Free Wheelin’, which provides rides to medical appointments, shopping and much more.
Food Security
With the generous contributions of our community members and visitors, MRVIC meets the growing needs of our community. We are able to keep up with the increased number of neighbors who visit the food pantry each month as well as the dramatic jump in food prices.
Holiday Celebrations.
This past November, MRVIC provided Thanksgiving food for 97 families, representing 436 people. On a similar note, through the Joys of the Season program, we provided vouchers to families for holiday shopping at local stores, which benefited over 100 children.
Community Support
In response to the loss of socialization during COVID, and to help both parents and children, MRVIC launched the Summer FUNd program in collaboration with the MRV Community Fund, this year helping 81 local children enjoy a summer camp experience.
